Feeling for the feline

Paws scrape the threshold

and jolt the handle.

The door creaks open.

She sniffs the air.

They refuse to treat

your fetid breath.

Stay outside, Misty—

take your own time.

Please take your time.

Please take your time.

Because if you don’t

they’ll take it from you.

Forget the rain clouds.

Flaunt your beige/cream coat.

Feel the cool breeze

ruffle your fur

like my hands do

When you’re in my lap,

staring at my homework

with that ‘meh’ look

I won’t miss your:

snaggle tooth or

itch-inducing hairs

in my keyboard.

I will miss your:

dark brown face;

squinty ‘meh’ eyes; and

your warm, soothing calm.

Take care and rest well

but for now:

stay outside, Misty—

take your own time.
